Dr. Amir Mian joins Dell Children’s as new Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Amir Mian has joined Dell Children’s as the new Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the Department of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.

As new division chief, Dr. Mian will help build a robust clinical Stem Cell therapies and Transplant program (SCT) that treats children and adolescents with various types of cancers and blood disorders. The program will include comprehensive SCT capabilities in autologous, allogeneic, and CAR-T cell therapies. His experience compliments the strong clinical program already in place at Dell Children’s.

Dr. Mian graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan in 1992. He completed his Pediatric Residency and was Chief Resident at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He completed a fellowship in pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and completed an additional year of training in Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) in 2005. Subsequently, Dr. Mian joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and in the same year, he was appointed Interim Medical Director, tasked to launch an accredited Pediatric BMT program. Dr. Mian led the team in collaboration with the Cancer Center to build the program and achieve FACT (Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) accreditation. In 2018, Dr. Mian completed his MBA with an emphasis in Health Care from the University of Arkansas.

In 2021, Dr. Mian was recruited as Professor and Division Chief, Pediatric Hematology/-Oncology at Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Augusta, to reignite the clinical program and establish a BMT service. Upon assuming this leadership role, he redefined the division’s strategic goals to focus on the efficient delivery of clinical services by standardizing processes and focused on active outreach to Primary Care physicians to ease patient access and strengthen referrals to sustain growth in oncology and serve as a foundation for BMT.

Dr. Mian will hold the Arthur H. Dilly Endowed Chair in Pediatric Oncology at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
