Dell Children's Foundation

Our History

Established in 1987, the Dell Children’s Medical Center (DCMC) Foundation began as the Children’s Hospital Foundation supporting the Children’s Hospital of Austin, a department of Brackenridge. At that time, Brackenridge Hospital was owned and managed by the City of Austin, but in order to improve the level of care provided, the City of Austin asked Seton to take over management. As soon as Seton began managing Brackenridge, the Seton Foundations began raising funds to support the hospital.

In the early 2000’s, Seton alongside the Central Texas community realized the crucial need for a state-of-the-art children’s hospital to meet the demands of our growing community. With the extreme generosity and support of our community and a grand vision of world-class pediatric care in our own backyard, Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas opened on June 30, 2007, becoming the only dedicated, freestanding pediatric facility in the region.

Dell Children’s Medical Center Foundation works with our generous philanthropic community and their passion to invest in the future of our children’s health in Central Texas through Dell Children’s Medical Center. Through philanthropy, the Central Texas community helped build this outstanding regional facility. Our goal is to help make it one of the top children’s hospitals in the country.

Dell Children’s is a tremendous asset to our community. The state-of-the-art facility provides exceptional care to thousands of children and their families close to home. It continues the legacy of outstanding service of Children’s Hospital of Austin (closed on July 1, 2007) with new space, new technology, new programs – and more hearts and hands to make it all happen.

Together, we are creating a new standard in pediatric care. We are growing a world-class medical center dedicated to the care of children and adolescents, regardless of their families’ ability to pay.
