“A Real Hero” – Owen’s Story

Right before Christmas of 2017, our daughter, Madelyn, came down with a rare and serious illness that landed her at Dell Children’s for seven days. It was a scary experience, but Madelyn’s care team was professional and compassionate. Our daughter made a quick and full recovery.

Never could we have imagined that exactly one year later, our son Owen, would also find himself at Dell Children’s, this time with a much more serious prognosis.

In fact, our sweet son flatlined soon after he arrived at the hospital, and for over 90 minutes, the incredible staff took turns giving him CPR.

Thanks to their dedication to our son, and the quick thinking of Dr. Mery who put him on an ECMO life support machine, Owen is with us today.

It’s been a long road to recovery, including 30 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the same room Madelyn was in, but today Owen is strong and thriving thanks to Dell Children’s.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting Dell Children’s–and thank you for supporting families like ours.

Sincerely,

Kristin and Darin Coulter
