Generous gift from the Cailloux Foundation committed to improving care for vulnerable infants in Central Texas

Dell Children’s Foundation is proud to announce it has received a $2 million charitable gift from The Floyd A. and Kathleen C. Cailloux Foundation in Kerrville, Texas.  The generous gift is dedicated to supporting the new Fetal Center at Dell Children’s, ensuring the best diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities in unborn and newborn infants with world-class care close to home.

In Texas, more than 24,000 babies are born each year with at least one major structural malformation or chromosomal anomaly such as spina bifida, cleft palate or lip, and congenital heart conditions.

This generous gift will help provide the specialized high-quality care for at-risk pregnant women and fragile newborns,” said Dr. Kenneth Moise Jr., director of the newly developed Fetal Center at Dell Children’s in partnership with UT Health Austin, the clinical practice of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. It’s critical that no mother or child has to leave Austin for multidisciplinary care and state-of-the-art treatment options.

Since 2017, The Cailloux Foundation has provided fundamental support needed to establish and grow programs and expand services at Dell Children’s.

The new Fetal Center is a significant achievement and we are honored to be a part of it,” said Cailloux Foundation Chairman Kenneth Cailloux, “Floyd and Kathleen, my parents and founders of the Foundation, would be very pleased with this gift and how it will make a positive difference for children and families in Central and West Texas. I consider it a tribute to their caring and generosity.

We believe the Fetal Center is the future of high-level specialty care in Central Texas,” said Christopher Born, president of Dell Children’s Medical Center. “Thanks to this generous gift from the Cailloux Foundation, the opportunities that lie ahead for us to better serve the medical needs for at-risk mothers and babies are endless.

The Fetal Center will be housed in the new Dell Children’s Specialty Pavilion at Dell Children’s and is slated to open in April 2021 and will be operated jointly by Dell Children’s and UT Health Austin. The center will provide coordinated multispecialty care for families and babies identified prenatally with a congenital anomaly. The center will also include an 11-bed specialized labor and delivery unit, set to open July 2021 at Dell Children’s.
